Central Bank confirms that R$ 5.6 billion remains forgotten in financial institutions

The Central Bank released an update to the data from the System of Amounts to Be Received, confirming that R$ 5.64 billion has not yet been claimed across various financial institutions. This amount belongs to both millions of individuals and companies that have available funds to be recovered.

There was a reduction in the balance compared to previous months because part of these funds was allocated to a public fund with the aim of enabling discounts in the Desenrola 2.0 program. This financial movement is under investigation by the Federal Court of Accounts (TCU), which is examining how these resources are being used.

Evolution of Forgotten Balances

Records accounted for up to July show a sharp decrease when compared to the R$ 10.6 billion registered in March. In May, the value had already dropped to R$ 6.2 billion, and in June it reached R$ 5.1 billion.

The R$ 5.64 billion currently deposited in financial institutions is managed by a Central Bank system that allows consultation of amounts left in banks, consortiums, and other entities. This tool also serves to verify assets in the name of deceased persons.

Use of Resources and Oversight

At the beginning of May, the government announced its intention to use between R$ 5 billion and R$ 8 billion of the forgotten amounts to support Desenrola 2.0, a new debt renegotiation scheme. Subsequently, approximately R$ 5.7 billion was directed to the Guarantee Fund for Operations (FGO), a fund that insures financial institutions and can cover potential defaults by borrowers.

On that occasion, the government clarified that the unclaimed resources would be used by the FGO to guarantee the operations of the financial system itself, and that 10% of the transferred balance would be reserved to meet withdrawal requests from account holders.

This transfer of funds began to be examined by the TCU. The court's technicians are investigating the use of these resources in federal programs that are outside the established public budget.

How to Check and Withdraw

Checking for forgotten amounts in banks, consortiums, and other institutions is done through the official Central Bank portal. To access the amounts via the system, it is essential to provide a Pix key. If the user does not have a registered key, they must contact the financial institution to arrange the receipt method, or create a key and return to the system to request the amount.

In situations where the amounts belong to deceased persons, the inquiry can be made by heirs, executors, administrators, or legal representatives, requiring the completion of a responsibility term. After checking, it is crucial to contact the indicated institutions to understand the necessary procedures to obtain the money.
