During a press conference, captain Fortuin noted the high competitiveness of previous games. He stated that he had seen the team demonstrate skills in various aspects of the game and expects the same level from the opponents. Fortuin predicts that the match will be of high quality, as Namibian players perform well on their home turf despite the longer game format.
The visiting players have strengthened the squad by including versatile player Corbin Bosch and his brother Ethan, as well as top-order batsman Matthew Britske. These replacements came after Luan-Dre Pretorius and Andile Simelane were ruled out due to injuries.
According to the Proteas squad update, Luan-Dre Pretorius sustained a right adductor muscle injury, and Andile Simelane suffered a left abdominal muscle strain. Both players are excluded from the three-match ODI series against Namibia, which starts on Wednesday. Corbin Bosch and Matthew Britske are included in the full Proteas squad, which will play against Australia at the end of the month, and they need to gain form before important clashes with the Australians.
Fortuin welcomed the arrival of these two players in Windhoek. He noted it was pleasant to see them on the field given the big summer ahead at home. The captain added that they will bring their individual qualifications, having experience playing abroad. He also emphasized that Mattie B is a leader, and having additional calm voices in the squad will help the team in the next tournament.
Meanwhile, Namibia captain Gerhard Erasmus hopes to use this challenge against Proteas as a foundation for achieving World Cup qualification goals. He mentioned that the team is often associated with the 'associate nation' status within the WCL league, and this label is difficult to change. However, T20 formats periodically provide an opportunity to measure themselves against the best global teams, and the T20 World Cup serves this function.
Erasmus believes that all associate nations strive to qualify for the 50-over World Cup because it is a stronger format. He explained that this format tests players better in a longer version and separates great cricketers more distinctly. He expressed hope that if they can perform very well over the next eight months, they can qualify for the World Cup and possibly meet their neighbors again. The mere fact of hosting the tournament is already a great achievement for the organization, and participation would be another significant success for the country's cricket.
