Flaxseed oil is rich in omega-3 fatty acids, protein, lignans, and vitamin E, making it a true blessing for skin and hair. It not only improves the elasticity of sagging skin and eliminates wrinkles but also strengthens hair at the roots, making it shiny and preventing breakage.
However, flaxseed oil available in stores is often expensive, and due to impurities, preservatives, and chemicals, its natural properties can diminish. If you aim to obtain 100% pure, fresh, and chemical-free oil, you do not need to spend money on store-bought versions. You can prepare pure flaxseed oil at home in just 10 minutes using flaxseeds and 1-2 simple ingredients.
How to make flaxseed oil:
The following components are needed for preparation: 1/2 cup of flaxseeds, 1/2 cup of coconut or olive oil, and 1 cup of water (if you are making gel infusion oil).
The process begins with thoroughly cleaning the flaxseeds. Then, the seeds are placed in a blender jar and ground into coarse flour, working in batches (using the pulse setting).
Pour 1/2 cup of coconut or olive oil into a pan or onto the stove, and add the ground flaxseed flour. Set the heat to the lowest setting, and the mixture simmers slowly for 5–7 minutes. It is important to monitor so that the oil does not burn, and the nutrients from the flax evenly transfer into the oil.
After 7 minutes, turn off the heat, and allow the mixture to cool completely. Afterward, place the prepared mixture into a muslin or cotton cloth and squeeze it out forcefully by hand. The straining yields 100% pure, thick, light golden oil, which is collected in a bowl.
The resulting pure oil should be stored in a clean and dry glass bottle; it retains its properties for many months.
Benefits of homemade flaxseed oil
Applying 2–3 drops of this oil to the face before sleep and massaging upwards helps strengthen sagging skin and eliminate wrinkles. Applying flaxseed oil to the hair roots helps eliminate dandruff and stimulates the growth of longer, thicker hair. Furthermore, it acts as a natural hair conditioner, making dry and dull hair soft.
