A 1000 cubic meter water desalination plant was officially launched in Asalueh on Tuesday. The ceremony took place during the visit of Energy Minister Abbas Aliyabadi to Bushehr province. The governor of Bushehr and representatives from the districts of Kangana, Dayir, Jam, and Asalueh were present; the goal of the launch is to satisfy part of the district's water needs.
The CEO of the Bushehr Province Water Supply and Drainage Company stated at the opening that the project has a final production capacity of 5000 cubic meters of water per day, with the first phase, amounting to 1000 cubic meters, already operational.
Ali Bardestani added that 1000 meters of pipelines for water transmission, 1500 meters of power lines, and a 100 cubic meter water storage reservoir were constructed for this project. Approximately 4200 subscribers will benefit from the water produced by this desalination plant.
He noted that this project had been planned since 2023 (1402), and the commissioning of the first phase will help alleviate the water shortage in the Asalueh district.
The CEO of the Bushehr Province Water Supply and Drainage Company specified that Asalueh faces a drinking water deficit of 237 liters per second, and the new desalination plant will cover 58 liters per second of this shortage.
Bardestani also mentioned that, considering the district's needs, work is underway on a groundwater supply project, as well as eight projects related to water distribution and consumption management. These measures are planned jointly to reduce and compensate for part of the region's water deficit.
A representative from the districts of Dayir, Kangana, Asalueh, and Jam expressed gratitude to the Energy Minister, the Governor of Bushehr, the Ministry of Energy, and officials of the Pars Special Economic Energy Zone for their support and for removing obstacles to the project's implementation. He emphasized that Asalueh, being an industrial center and one of the most important economic hubs of the country, has long faced water supply problems.
Hojjatolslam Sheikh Musa Ahmadi stated that thanks to cooperation with the Ministry of Energy, the Office of the Governor of Bushehr, and the Pars Special Economic Energy Zone, the necessary permits for the desalination plant in Asalueh were obtained, and issues related to the project's energy supply were resolved.
He continued that the final capacity of the desalination plant in Asalueh is 5000 cubic meters per day, and in the future, based on the needs of the population and industry in the region, the production capacity is expected to increase to 7000 cubic meters per day.
Ahmadi stressed that ensuring sustainable water supply for the residents and enterprises of Asalueh is a fundamental necessity for the district's development, and the launch of this project could be an important step in solving the region's water problems.
Energy Minister Aliyabadi positively responded to the request from representatives of the southern districts of Bushehr in the Majlis to increase the capacity of the desalination plant to 7000 cubic meters.
The CEO of the Bushehr Province Water Supply and Drainage Company also announced that the construction of the desalination plant in Dayir has reached 50% completion and is planned to be launched by February 2026 (Bahman 1405).
Ali Bardestani told IRNA on Tuesday, against the backdrop of the Energy Minister's visit, that 7500 meters of pipelines for water transmission and 10000 meters of power lines will be built for this project, and the water storage reservoir volume will be 400 cubic meters.
The CEO of the Bushehr Province Water Supply and Drainage Company added that the water produced by this desalination plant will be directed to a 10,000 cubic meter reservoir in the Dayir district, and the project will cover approximately 30,000 people.
Bardestani noted that, according to estimates, about 7500 subscribers will benefit from the project after the commissioning of the desalination plant in Dayir.
Regarding the desalination plant in Siraf, he reported that it is currently operating at a capacity of 10,000 cubic meters, and with the participation of the private sector and investment, its production capacity will be increased to 23,000 cubic meters.
The CEO of the Bushehr Province Water Supply and Drainage Company added that increasing the capacity of the desalination plant in Siraf will play an important role in ensuring and improving the sustainability of drinking water supply for the residents of the region, especially in the Jam district.
Bardestani stated that suitable conditions have been provided for a private investor in this regard to accelerate the project's implementation, allowing the capacity increase of the desalination plant in Siraf to be commissioned in a timely manner.
He emphasized that expanding the capacity of desalination plants and utilizing the potential of the private sector are important strategies for strengthening water supply infrastructure and increasing the resilience of the water distribution network in various areas of Bushehr province.
