Scientists from Germany discovered that blue-throated macaws have the ability to imitate problem-solving methods by observing trained conspecifics if given the opportunity.
It was observed that birds who mastered the task independently preferred certain solutions, whereas individuals who observed a demonstrator often reproduced its actions.
Furthermore, researchers noted that the macaws can even copy actions that are unrelated to solving the task and are useless.
The results of this study were published in the journal Royal Society Open Science.
