NMDC, India's largest iron ore producer, began applying a revised compensation system for its non-managerial workers on January 1, 2022. This followed the signing of a tripartite wage agreement in New Delhi on Tuesday.
According to an NMDC statement, the new structure provides for the complete neutralization of the Dearness Allowance (DA) as of January 1, 2022. Furthermore, under the 'Cafeteria' approach, a minimum benefit and allowance of 15 percent, amounting to 30 percent of the basic salary, is guaranteed.
The company also introduced a Special Allowance equivalent to 5 percent of the basic salary for employees working on the Bacheli, Kirandul, Donimalai, and Panna projects. The revision also includes changes to night shift allowances and other types of benefits.
Amitava Mukherjee, Chairman and Managing Director of NMDC, noted that the workforce is the foundation of the company's operations, and their dedication has contributed to NMDC's consistent contribution to India's mineral security. He added that this adjustment will strengthen financial stability and employee motivation, fostering a more motivated and engaged team.
NMDC emphasized that its non-managerial employees play a critical role in mining operations and contribute significantly to strengthening India's mineral security and national development. The company stated that the salary revision ensures that the benefits of company growth are shared with the workers.
