According to the results of a study conducted by the Global Burden of Disease, 2.71 billion people worldwide were exposed to passive smoking during 2023. A significant portion of these individuals are children under 14 years old, accounting for 767 million people.
The researchers' collaboration established that exposure to tobacco smoke caused the death of 1.66 million people. The data from this analysis was officially published in the scientific journal The Lancet Public Health.
