8.2 million women farmers in Uttar Pradesh gain self-reliance opportunities through the scheme

Women are being connected to agriculture, employment, and small businesses through the Rural Livelihood Mission in Uttar Pradesh. The Self-Help Groups associated with this initiative have now become a means for earning income and becoming self-reliant in villages. The participation of over 8.2 million women farmers in the state reflects the broad picture of this transformation. Women are getting opportunities not only in farming-related tasks but also in increasing their income, while efforts are being made to connect them with training, loans, and markets through Self-Help Groups, which is positively impacting the village economy.

In fact, more than 10.58 lakh Self-Help Groups are operational in the state under the Rural Livelihood Mission, with nearly one and a quarter crore rural families associated with them. These groups have played a vital role in connecting women to employment and entrepreneurship, as well as increasing family income and boosting economic activities in rural areas. Over 8.2 million women farmers associated with these groups have emerged as new pioneers of rural change, and their increasing participation in farming-related work is providing them with new avenues for earning.

The objective of the Rural Livelihood Mission is not just to provide financial assistance to women; it is to create sustainable income opportunities by connecting them with training, loans, enterprises, and markets. The results are now visible in the villages. Women are running small businesses in various sectors such as food processing, tailoring, dairy, handicrafts, and hygiene products. These activities have increased women's income, leading to an improvement in their families' economic condition. Additionally, besides contributing to household needs, women are also progressing towards making independent decisions and creating employment opportunities for other families.

Mission Director Arun Kumar stated that a major success of the Rural Livelihood Mission is that women were provided with entrepreneurial opportunities beyond just savings and loan arrangements. The connection to the market, along with training and financial assistance, has helped establish small industries in villages. According to Arun Kumar, this has boosted women's confidence, and they are establishing themselves as entrepreneurs. Local employment opportunities are also being generated in rural areas through women's groups. A woman becoming an entrepreneur is not limited to her family; other women in the group are also inspired by her and join economic activities.

Connecting rural women to banking and financial services is also counted among the key achievements of this mission. Through financial inclusion, women have gained access to savings, loans, and other economic possibilities, which has increased the potential to start businesses in villages with low capital. The government's current focus is not just on keeping these groups active, but on making them sources of sustainable income by connecting them to enterprise, employment, and market opportunities. Self-Help Groups are becoming a medium for both rural development and women's empowerment.

Mission Director Arun Kumar also mentioned that the network of over 10.5 million Self-Help Groups in the state is providing new energy to the rural economy. On one hand, it is providing livelihood opportunities, while on the other hand, women are gaining a new identity of economic self-reliance and social respect. This rural livelihood model is promoting economic activities in villages while connecting women to employment and entrepreneurship, and the association of over 8.2 million women farmers with Self-Help Groups demonstrates this big change.
