Unrest in Mumbai over screening of film 'Hanuman ANS'; police seal theater

The film 'Hanuman ANS', dedicated to the life of Nimaruli Baba, is very popular with viewers, continuing to fill theaters even a month after its premiere. However, problems arose in Mumbai related to the Gaiety Galaxy cinema in Bandra, which led to unrest over the removal of the 'Hanuman ANS' screening.

Some people staged a protest, after which the theater was closed. Questions have arisen about the real reason for the closure. Reports emerged that some visitors caused a disturbance and tore posters of the film 'Mirzapur Da Movie' at the Gaiety Galaxy theater in Bandra when 'Hanuman ANS' was not showing.

When the Mumbai police arrived to investigate the incident, it was discovered that the Gaiety Galaxy theater had not renewed its license since 2021–22. Since then, the theater's operations have been suspended because the police shut it down.

Furthermore, the police placed a notice on the theater indicating the necessity of keeping it closed. Nevertheless, officials assured that as soon as the license is renewed, the cinema will be permitted to resume operations.

Manager Marata Mandir, Manoj Pandey, confirmed in an exclusive interview with 'India Today/Aatak' that the situation arose due to internal licensing issues that they are trying to resolve as quickly as possible. It should be noted that the management of Marata Mandir and Gaiety Galaxy is unified.

There were also rumors that the theater was closed due to riots during the 'Hanuman ANS' screening. Assertions were also circulating on social media that some cables inside the theater caught fire, and the management was dealing with this issue.

In this regard, Manoj Pandey advised against believing rumors circulating on social media. He stated: 'Do not pay attention to any rumors on social media. There are some internal matters that we are currently resolving. We will resume screenings soon.'

As for the film 'Hanuman ANS', it is achieving impressive box office collections. Viewers appreciate the hymns, storyline, and simplicity of the film, which touch the hearts of fans.

According to Sakencode data, on the second day, the film collected a net income of 31 crore rupees, showing a 20% increase, while the cinema occupancy rate was around 50%. The total net income over two days reached 56.75 crore rupees. Approximately 11 thousand shows have been launched across the country. As for the worldwide gross, the film has already earned 78.45 crore rupees.

The release of the 'Mirzapur' series into cinemas has been a significant success for the creators, considering its status as one of the largest projects on the OTT platform. According to available data, the project budget is estimated at approximately 250 crore rupees. Therefore, to break even, the film needs to collect 300–350 crore rupees, and the creators have a chance to achieve this goal if the collection pace continues over the next two weeks.

Comparing the collections with other major projects, it is noted that Pankaj Tripathi has only surpassed the 100 crore rupee mark with the film OMG 2. Ali Fazal and Divyendu Sharma have not yet reached this figure. However, the current collection pace and the impression made by 'Mirzapur: The Movie' suggest that they will soon receive their first film with 100 crore in box office collections.
