Egypt seeks to expand partnership with Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank in energy and infrastructure sectors

Egypt is looking for opportunities to deepen cooperation with the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB). President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi called for closer interaction in key areas such as transport, ports, logistics, and energy.

These statements were made during meetings with AIIB President Zhou Jie. According to the Egyptian presidency, El-Sisi welcomed the bank's support in implementing the country's national development agenda, noting that AIIB's financing and technical assistance have contributed to projects involving state institutions, financial structures, and the private sector.

He emphasized that future cooperation must align with Egypt's national development priorities while leveraging the country's economic and geographical advantages.

Zhou highlighted Egypt's strategic position as a link between Asia and Africa and affirmed the bank's commitment to supporting the country's development plans. She cited AIIB-supported projects, such as the Benban Solar Park, the Alexandria-Abukir metro line, and the Damietta Port container terminal.

The bank's head also expressed support for government measures aimed at strengthening Egypt's economic resilience and promoting sustainable recovery. Zhou, who is also the Chairman of the bank's Board of Directors, stated that her visit was intended to consult with Egyptian authorities regarding development priorities for the coming period.

During the negotiations, El-Sisi outlined Egypt's recent investments in infrastructure, including the modernization of transport systems, upgrading energy and telecommunications networks, and increasing the share of renewable energy. He also focused on steps to improve the investment environment, enhance competitiveness, increase the private sector's contribution to the economy, and attract foreign capital.

Regional and international economic conditions, including the impact of geopolitical tensions on investment, financing, and development prospects, were also discussed. This meeting underscores Egypt's efforts to strengthen international financial partnerships in the context of infrastructure development and enhancing economic resilience.
