It is said that with hard work and determination, nothing is impossible, and a person can achieve the most grandiose goals. There is an interesting story of GRB Dairy Foods founder, G. Balasubramaniam, who, despite financial difficulties, dropped out of school and started working by selling oil on the streets on a bicycle. However, he did not give up, and today his company, GRB Dairy Foods, is worth over 100 billion rupees.
The success story of G. Balasubramaniam, founder of GRB Dairy Foods, serves as an example that any height can be reached through hard work and transitioning from the category of ordinary people to the category of outstanding individuals. His business journey began even before the founding of GRB. Balasubramaniam, born in the small village of Chinna Karattupatti in Palani, Tamil Nadu, grew up in a family of six children and left school at the age of 13 to start working in Bangalore.
Balasubramaniam's father was a farmer, and he bought and sold agricultural products between villages on a bicycle. In Bangalore, he worked for about 14 years in his son-in-law's oil shop. After this, he had the idea to do something new and resigned. According to reports, he only had 6000 rupees in savings at that time, which he used to start selling oil, and this is where the foundation of GRB Dairy Foods began.
While working in his son-in-law's business, Balasubramaniam mastered the intricacies of the oil trade and effectively applied this knowledge by starting his own business. Initially, he purchased oil from small producers and sold it in Bangalore. He converted the oil into ghee and released it to the market in packaged form. At first, he started his business in a small room.
To develop his business, Balasubramaniam established a company with a chit fund system, a method he also learned in his son-in-law's business. He explained this model to his acquaintances and formed a good group. The money collected this way, he invested in his oil business. When the problem of rapid spoilage of oil arose, he started producing ghee and bringing it to the market. As the business grew, so did his income and staff.
The first GRB Dairy Foods factory was opened in Bangalore in 1991, followed by factories in Dindigul and Hosur. He added packaged ghee and other dairy products to his business and never looked back. According to details on the GRB Dairy Foods website, the company's annual revenue now exceeds 100 billion rupees, and its products are available in 40 countries worldwide. The product portfolio includes over 70 types of dairy products.
