The German luxury car manufacturer BMW has officially introduced its new electric sedan, the BMW i5 LWB with an extended wheelbase, to the Indian market. This model, which debuted in India last month, is now available starting at a price of 79.60 lakh rupees (excluding taxes).
A key feature is that the BMW i5 LWB will be assembled locally at the company's plant in Chennai, which helps reduce the final cost of this electric sedan for the Indian consumer.
This long-wheelbase variant is presented at an introductory price; the first run was also available for 79.60 lakh, but only 99 such units were produced, and they sold out before the official sales launch. The company claims that this vehicle is the most spacious in its class.
In terms of dimensions, the car measures 5,175 mm in length, 2,156 mm in width, and 1,520 mm in height. The wheelbase reaches 3,105 mm, providing maximum space in the segment. The front is equipped with BMW's characteristic large 'kidney' grille, framed by the signature BMW LED contour. Additionally, it features adaptive LED headlights and vertical daytime running lights.
The car is distinguished by a more gentle '5' emblem fold, black side skirts, smoothly opening door handles, and a glowing five-spoke floor mat, emphasizing its premium appearance. The standard equipment includes 20-inch M alloy wheels with a combined coating. The rear is adorned with thin two-line LED taillights. The car is available in Mineral White, Phytonic Blue, Carbon Black, and Oxide Grey colors.
BMW has paid great attention to the interior luxury of the i5 LWB, using entirely vegan materials. The standard two-tone Veganza leather upholstery comes in Copper Brown and Atlas Grey color schemes. The dashboard is equipped with a curved BMW display, which includes a 12.3-inch instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch touch control screen. There is also an illuminated bar in the form of a BMW crystal, combining cabin lighting elements and air conditioning controls.
Elements of hand-cut crystal are placed inside the car, and the steering wheel features a Bottom-Flat M design. For comfort, it offers ventilated front seats, four-zone climate control, and a Sky Lounge panoramic glass roof. A voluminous Bowers & Wilkins sound system is installed to create an atmosphere during long drives.
All 99 units of the first edition BMW i5 LWB were pre-sold. This special version included an entertainment package for rear passengers with a tablet and holder. Furthermore, it featured silver bronze accents in the cabin, fine-grained wood trim, and a 'First Edition' badge laser-engraved on the dashboard.
The BMW i5 LWB is equipped with a high-voltage battery pack with a capacity of 81.6 kWh. According to the manufacturer, this electric sedan can travel up to 669 kilometers on a single full charge according to the MIDC cycle. Regarding charging, the car supports fast DC charging up to 160 kW, allowing the battery to charge from 10% to 80% in just 33 minutes. The company also provides a BMW Wallbox charger with every car, which supports home AC charging up to 11 kW, including professional installation.
One rear electric motor is used to drive this large electric sedan. This motor generates 265 hp and 410 Nm of torque. According to the company, the car can accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in just 6.7 seconds, and its top speed is 195 kilometers per hour.
