The design team described the work located in the Restelo neighborhood, which consists of a band of residential buildings constructed during the 1950s. This urban complex is characterized by patterns of repetition, domestic scale, and uniformity in the facades.
Over the years, many of these houses have undergone various modifications, especially on the facades facing public roads, which has diminished the visibility of the original architectural identity.
The proposed intervention stemmed precisely from this analysis. While the front facade was maintained and restored, valuing its contribution to the profile of the urban cluster, the rear facade received a markedly modern language.
Inside, a complete demolition of the pre-existing structure was chosen. The living space was conceived to meet the needs of a family of five people, requiring optimization in the layout of rooms and their interaction.
In parallel, the project sought to foster connections and fluid communication between the various environments and floors of the residence. This ambition is manifested in a vertical void that runs through the entire house, from the social area to the roof.
This space, which follows the line of the staircase and is bathed in skylight, has become a crucial component of the project. The influx of natural light, descending from the top to the ground floor, accentuates spatial continuity and transforms this void into a point of union for all levels.
Additionally, the social area was planned to be adaptable to the various moments of daily routine. A continuous wooden floor integrates cabinets, doors, and movable panels, allowing the kitchen to be brought closer to or isolated from the living room according to usage needs. Large glazed openings extend the internal environment to the garden, strengthening the connection with the outdoors.
