A strong cold front advancing across Brazil altered the scenario this Sunday, the Independence Day holiday. According to Inmet, the cold is most noticeable in the South and Southeast regions, while the North and Central-West are affected by rain and thunderstorms.
On Tuesday, the 8th, the cold air mass will begin to decrease in intensity, resulting in rising temperatures in parts of the national territory. Despite this, rain showers are still forecast in several locations, keeping the weather unstable in different states.
Weather Conditions in the South Region
The afternoon of this Sunday will be marked by stable weather and low temperatures in most of the South Region. The sky is expected to have few clouds in Rio Grande do Sul, as well as Santa Catarina and Paraná, and frost will mark the beginning of the day in several points of the region.
In the capitals, Curitiba will register a maximum of only 15°C, Florianópolis will reach 17°C, and Porto Alegre will be at 18°C. Inmet issued a yellow warning regarding the drop in temperature throughout the South Region and the occurrence of frost in Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina, and Paraná.
Situation in the Southeast
In the Southeast, the cold front will concentrate instabilities in Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo. Isolated rain showers were also reported in southern Minas, Rio de Janeiro, and the coast of São Paulo.
São Paulo will face a cool afternoon, with a maximum limited to 14°C. In Rio de Janeiro, the temperature may reach 23°C, and Belo Horizonte will reach 21°C.
Thermal Contrast in the North and Northeast
The thermal contrast is notable further north in the country. In Amazonas, the heat will increase even more this Sunday, with Manaus potentially reaching 38°C, even with the presence of rain and thunderstorms.
In the Northeast, Teresina will stand out among the capitals with a forecast maximum of 40°C. Bahia has areas with potential for rain showers, although much of the region has few clouds or partly cloudy skies.
Central-West and Temperature Changes
In Mato Grosso, Goiás, and the Federal District, there are still reports of isolated rain showers and thunderstorms. In Mato Grosso do Sul, the cold air will keep temperatures low, with Campo Grande projecting a maximum of 21°C.
The main points of attention this Sunday include the change in temperatures on the first working day after the holiday. In the Central-West, the heat will return, with Cuiabá reaching a maximum of 35°C, while Brasília will remain milder, with a maximum of 27°C.
Updates on the Southeast and South
In the Southeast, maximums will return to exceed 20°C in all capitals. Rio de Janeiro may reach 25°C, while São Paulo will start the day with a minimum of 11°C.
The South Region will also begin a thermal recovery, although the cold persists. Porto Alegre may reach 22°C, and Curitiba will have a maximum of 19°C. There is still a forecast for frost during the early morning and at dawn in the east-central part of Rio Grande do Sul and in the mountains of Santa Catarina.
Precipitation, however, will not cease. For Tuesday, there is a forecast of showers and thunderstorms in northern, eastern, and southeastern Mato Grosso, and in large parts of Goiás. In the North, Amazonas, Tocantins, and southeastern Pará will also have areas of instability.
