Xiaomi officially unveiled the Xiaomi 18 Fold this Monday, the 7th, marking a new development in the competitive foldable smartphone market. This model was developed over two years and adopts a passport-style design, appearing compact when closed and maximizing screen area when opened.
The launch occurs at a relevant time, as Samsung recently released the Galaxy Z Fold 8, which shares the same format. Furthermore, there are rumors that Apple will also present a device with similar features during an event scheduled for Wednesday, the 9th.
The Xiaomi 18 Fold incorporates two LTPO-equipped screens, allowing the refresh rate to vary between 1 and 120 Hz to optimize power consumption, while achieving a maximum brightness of up to 4,000 nits.
To mitigate the central crease characteristic of foldable devices, the company utilized a two-layer Ultra Thin Glass (UTG) panel. The external structure is built with 7 series aluminum alloy and Dragon Crystal Glass 3.0, complemented by a redesigned hinge to ensure greater durability and flexibility.
Despite its robust construction, the phone weighs 219 grams. Its dimensions are 5.02 mm thick when open and 10.68 mm when folded. Additionally, the model has IP58/IP59 certifications against dust and water.
This device also stands out for being the first to integrate the new XRING O3 processor, developed internally by Xiaomi using a 3nm process. Although the practical performance of the chip still needs to be evaluated, high-level performance is expected.
Regarding the camera system, the Xiaomi 18 Fold was developed in collaboration with Leica. The rear module features three lenses: a 200MP main lens, a 50MP telephoto lens, and a 50MP ultra-wide-angle lens.
The battery also received special attention, as the model is equipped with a 6,000 mAh component, surpassing the capacity of other foldables in the same category. It supports 60W wired charging and 50W wireless charging.
Available in Scarlet red, white gold, and matte black, the Xiaomi 18 Fold was initially announced for the Chinese market, with no forecast for release in other regions. Prices vary depending on the RAM configuration and internal storage capacity.
