Huawei launched a new version of its trifold smartphone, the Mate XT 2, this Monday, September 7th. This new model replaces the external fold format of previous editions with a Z-structure and incorporates an OLED screen equipped with a privacy mode, a technology similar to that offered by Samsung.
Maintaining a slim profile and the rear octagonal module with cameras, the brand's new trifold features a notable addition: an external screen, made possible by the new folding system adopted. Currently, Huawei has not released a version intended for the global market.
In the Chinese market, the Mate XT 2 has an initial price of 19,999 yuan, which is equivalent to approximately R$ 15,275 in direct conversion, without considering taxes. This price makes it more expensive than both the Mate XTs and the first version, the Mate XT Ultimate Design, which was launched in Brazil for R$ 32,999.
One of the most significant changes compared to the original Mate XT lies in the opening mechanism. While the brand previously used a Z-fold mechanism, in the Mate XT 2, the two ends of the panel fold inwards, converging towards the center, following the pattern seen in the Galaxy Z TriFold.
When opened, the device displays a 10.2-inch OLED screen, capable of a resolution of up to 2,232 x 3,148 pixels. The internal panel operates with a variable refresh rate between 1 and 90 Hz. The external screen has 6.5 inches, with a refresh rate of 1 to 120 Hz and is protected by Kunlun glass, developed by Huawei itself.
Another major innovation of the Mate XT 2 is the inclusion of a privacy mode on the display. This feature, previously introduced by Samsung in the Galaxy S26 Ultra, works by altering how light is emitted from the screen, resulting in a narrowing of the viewing angle.
When this feature is activated, someone observing the smartphone directly can see the image normally, but it becomes less perceptible at side angles. This characteristic can be extremely useful in places like public transport or meetings, where the user wants to prevent personal information from being viewed by nearby people. Similar to the South Korean solution, the mode can be activated at any time or only when opening specific applications.
In terms of photography, the Mate XT 2 features a 50 MP main camera, using a 1/1.28-inch sensor, which is larger than the sensors in previous generations. It has a variable physical aperture, ranging from f/1.49 to f/4.0, allowing the user to control the amount of light captured and modify the depth of field.
The camera system also offers approximately 3.5x optical zoom, up to 7x with optical quality, and a digital zoom reaching 100x. Furthermore, the rear cameras are capable of recording videos in 4K resolution. The new Huawei trifold is equipped with the Kirin 9050 Pro chip, manufactured by Huawei itself, and comes with 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage.
The device battery has a capacity of 5,600 mAh and supports fast charging of up to 66W wired and 50W wireless. In connectivity, it integrates Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, NFC, and dual SIM support. Huawei has also integrated satellite communication through networks such as BeiDou in China. The operating system is HarmonyOS 7.0, and the phone also includes a side fingerprint reader, infrared for remote control, and dual-frequency GPS.
