Refrigerator Cleaning Tips: How to Achieve Shine in Just 20 Minutes

The refrigerator is used daily for 24 hours, which inevitably leads to the accumulation of dirt. A dirty refrigerator not only looks unappealing but can also negatively affect the food stored inside. Odors from vegetables, spilled milk, sauce stains, and accumulated grease in hard-to-reach places that are often ignored during daily cleaning can remain inside. Furthermore, dust and dirt accumulate on the exterior and on the rubber seals. A simple wipe with a cloth is insufficient, yet many people neglect cleaning, believing the process takes too much time.

If your refrigerator has not been properly cleaned for a long time, you do not need to buy expensive cleaning agents to get it in order. The refrigerator can be thoroughly cleaned inside and out using simple items found at home. Below is a simple method for deep cleaning the refrigerator that turns several hours of work into a matter of minutes.

Before starting the cleaning, all food must be completely removed from the refrigerator. Items that have spoiled or have not been used for a long time should be separated. After removing vegetables, fruits, bottles of milk, and other products, each shelf and drawer of the refrigerator becomes easily accessible for cleaning.

Before beginning the cleaning, disconnect the refrigerator from the power supply or turn it off with the switch. This will help reduce the risk of problems during the cleaning process.

The most contamination accumulates on the internal shelves and in the vegetable drawers. They can be removed and washed in warm water with a small amount of dish soap. If any food stain has dried and stuck, instead of scrubbing immediately, it is better to soak it in water for some time. This will soften the dried dirt, making it easier to remove. After cleaning, all parts should be thoroughly dried before being put back in place.

Since various products are stored in the refrigerator simultaneously, an unpleasant odor can develop, especially if something has spilled or an item has remained open for a long time, which intensifies the smell. To combat this, you can prepare a solution by mixing a little baking soda with water. This solution can be used to wipe the interior surfaces of the refrigerator with a clean cloth or sponge. Baking soda is capable of reducing odors inside the refrigerator while also performing a cleaning function.

When cleaning the refrigerator, people often overlook the corners and the door rubber seals. It is in these areas that dust, small food particles, and dirt can accumulate. Using an old soft toothbrush or a small brush, you can remove dirt trapped in the folds of the rubber. Then, the surface should be wiped with a damp cloth, and subsequently dried with a dry one. It is important not to scrub the rubber too hard, as this can lead to damage.

The refrigerator cannot be considered clean if only the interior is cleaned. Dust and fingerprints also accumulate on the doors, handles, and top surface. To clean these surfaces, take a soft cloth, dampen it in a slightly soapy solution, and wring it out well. Then, wipe the exterior of the refrigerator. Afterward, remove water spots with a dry cloth. If your refrigerator is made of stainless steel, avoid using too much water or abrasive sponges on its surface.

Deep cleaning must also include the back of the refrigerator. Dust accumulation here can contribute to increased dirt around the refrigerator. To clean the dust gathered at the back, you can move the refrigerator slightly away from the wall. However, it is strictly forbidden to apply water or any liquids to electrical components; a dry cloth or a vacuum cleaner is better suited for this area.

After finishing the cleaning, allow all parts, such as shelves and drawers, to dry completely. Then, turn the refrigerator back on and let it cool down a bit. Only after that is it safe to store food. The habit of covering food and immediately cleaning up spilled milk or sauce will prevent dirt and odors from accumulating quickly in the refrigerator.

Although a complete daily cleaning of the refrigerator is not an easy task for anyone, it is recommended to perform a deep clean at least once a month. If something spills or leaks in the refrigerator, do not postpone the cleaning; clean it immediately.
