Itaú Unibanco has decided to stop offering certain credit cards that use the Credicard and Itaucard brands. The affected units will be replaced by alternatives bearing the exclusive Itaú seal. Customers are already receiving notifications from the bank about this change.
The news was disclosed by the website Passageiro de Primeira and subsequently confirmed by Tecnoblog in conjunction with Itaú. However, the bank did not release the specific list of cards that will be discontinued, nor did it state the exact number of customers impacted by this measure.
Despite this, Itaú indicates that affected customers will receive new cards with benefits equivalent to or very close to those offered by the cards being discontinued. For example, the accumulated balance for those who owned a card that generated points will be fully migrated to Itaú's own points system.
In an official statement, the bank mentions that 'some Credicard and Itaucard cards' are being discontinued, which suggests that both brands are still active. However, the Credicard and Itaucard brands had already lost importance within Itaú's product portfolio some time ago, making it likely that this move is just one step before the definitive disappearance of the two brands.
In a note directed to Tecnoblog, Itaú explained that Itaú Unibanco is undergoing a process of evolving its card portfolio to adapt to changes in consumption habits and customer needs. As part of this transformation, some Credicard and Itaucard cards will be gradually replaced by Itaú line options, adjusted to each customer's individual profile.
The transition will be conducted in phases, ensuring advance communication and constant monitoring throughout the procedure. For those who possess cards with loyalty programs, the accumulated balance will be fully transferred to the Itaú program, preserving the equivalent accumulated value, in addition to granting all Itaú program benefits, such as transfers to airlines, use in Itaú Shop, and in the travel hub.
The process will be maintained with complete transparency, sending individual messages at each stage. The bank's official service channels remain available to answer any questions and provide all necessary support.
It is relevant to note that the bank recently also discontinued the Samsung Itaú card, which provided advantages to customers of the South Korean brand.
