Dubai Metro Station Onpassive to be renamed Garmin under 10-year agreement

The Dubai Metro station, previously known as ONPASSIVE, is set to become the Garmin station according to a new agreement signed by the Roads and Transport Authority of Dubai (RTA).

RTA has entered into a ten-year agreement with Garmin, an international brand specializing in fitness trackers, GPS navigation devices, and smartwatches. The deal was formalized through AMIT Retail, which is Garmin's exclusive distributor in the UAE.

This station is located between the Al Quoz and Al Safa districts. It originally opened as Noor Bank Station in 2010. In November 2020, it was named Al Safa Station, and in January 2023, it was renamed Onpassive after the acquisition of naming rights by an artificial intelligence company.

The transition to the new Garmin name is planned for the period from September to November 2026. The new Garmin station joins a growing list of branded stops on the Red and Green Lines, transforming metro stations into platforms for high-value investments and providing brands with opportunities to engage with the local community.

Abdul Mohsen Kalbat, CEO of RTA Rail Agency, noted that Garmin's participation in the Dubai Metro Station Naming Initiative confirms the success of the initiative in attracting leading brands from various business sectors. He added that this program contributes to strengthening public-private partnerships and supports Dubai's economic growth. RTA launched this initiative in 2009 as the first of its kind globally, offering private companies and organizations a unique opportunity to enhance their presence through Dubai Metro stations. According to him, the Dubai Metro has become an iconic landmark of this global city, which offers numerous economic and investment opportunities both regionally and worldwide.

Clifton Pemble, CEO of Garmin, expressed pride in the company's involvement in Dubai's landmark transport network. He stated that Garmin's mission is to create products that become an integral part of customers' lives, helping them confidently undertake their adventures, fitness journeys, and achieve health and wellness goals. He also emphasized that the company is pleased to collaborate with RTA and its valued distributor AMIT Retail to help people move around the world with greater confidence, connectivity, and purpose.

In the coming days, RTA will update the Garmin station name on all internal and external signage at the metro stations, as well as in the digital intelligent systems and RTA public transport applications. Audio announcements onboard will be updated before arrival at and upon arrival at the station. The authority has asked metro passengers to take note of the changed station name on the indicated platforms, assuring them that RTA teams will be ready to provide assistance or answer questions during the transition period.
