The Indian team management has begun preparations for the ODI World Cup 2027, with discussions actively focusing on the performances of experienced players such as Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja.
However, former Indian cricketer Dip Dasgupta raised an important issue, asserting that the BCCI must ensure the complete readiness of the young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal for the upcoming 2027 World Cup.
According to Dasgupta, if the team requires Yashasvi in the tournament, he must have sufficient experience playing in ODI format matches. He emphasized that it is unacceptable for the management to suddenly need Yashasvi just a month before the tournament starts, especially if the player has not participated in competitions for a long time.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, the former player stated that regardless of whether the team needs to place Shubman Gill at number three or look for another option, Yashasvi requires regular playing opportunities. Otherwise, the Indian team could face serious difficulties in the future.
Although Yashasvi Jaiswal has secured a spot in Test matches, he has yet to gain much playing time in the ODI format. Since his debut in 2025, he has played only six ODI matches for India. After a recent series against Afghanistan, he had to remain on the bench when Virat Kohli returned.
Considering that Rohit Sharma is in the final stages of his career, 25-year-old Yashasvi is considered one of the main contenders for the team's future.
Despite the limited number of matches, Jaiswal has demonstrated outstanding play whenever given the opportunity. In six ODIs for India, he has scored 285 runs at an average of 71.25. Furthermore, he has registered two centuries in these six matches, and his highest individual score was 116 not out.
