NIIF appoints Gauravjeet Singh as Capital Raising Managing Partner

The National Investment and Infrastructure Fund (NIIF), an alternative asset manager backed by India's sovereign wealth, has appointed Gauravjeet Singh as Managing Partner and Global Head of Capital Formation.

Singh has two decades of experience in raising institutional capital across various global market-oriented alternative investment strategies focusing on India and the entire Asia-Pacific region. He recently served as the Head of Investor Relations and Fundraising at PAG's private equity division in Singapore.

In his new role, Singh will lead NIIF's efforts to raise capital across all of the fund's investment strategies. His responsibilities include deepening relationships with existing investors, expanding the base of both international and domestic institutional investors, and attracting new capital.

This appointment comes amid significant fundraising momentum, as NIIF has managed to mobilize approximately $3 billion in new equity commitments over the past two years.

Earlier this year, NIIF secured $750 million in funding during the first close of its Private Markets Fund II, which has a target size of $1 billion, and the fundraising process is ongoing.

In August, NIIF announced the first close of Infrastructure Fund II at INR 19,000 crore ($2 billion), representing over 60 percent of its target of INR 30,000 crore ($3.2 billion).

Currently, NIIF manages over $7 billion in equity commitments across four verticals: infrastructure, private markets, growth equity, and climate investments.

NIIF attracts ₹19,000 crore in the first close of its second infrastructure fund

National Investment and Infrastructure Fund Limited (NIIF), an alternative asset manager under the aegis of India, has raised ₹19,000 crore during the first close of its Infrastructure Fund II, which is sized at ₹30,000 crore.

The initial fund close was supported by the Government of India and attracted capital from sovereign wealth funds, pension funds, insurance companies, and leading Indian financial institutions. Global institutional investors included AustralianSuper, CPP Investments, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA), Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan, and Temasek. Participating Indian institutions in the round included ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, Axis Bank, Kotak Life Insurance, and HDFC Life Insurance.

A statement noted that this fundraising reflects the high confidence of institutional investors in the long-term potential of Indian infrastructure and NIIF's investment strategy.

NIIF manages over $7 billion in equity commitments across four verticals: infrastructure, private markets, equity growth, and climate investments. In addition to the Fund itself, NIIF plans to mobilize approximately ₹9,000 crore through co-investments, allowing investors to participate in large-scale individual deals.

Sanjiv Aggarwal, Managing Director and CEO of NIIF, stated that 'Infrastructure Fund II demonstrates the consistent confidence of our partners in India's infrastructure potential and NIIF's ability to deploy long-term capital in a disciplined manner, possessing industry expertise and strong governance. The development of Indian infrastructure creates opportunities on a massive scale, and NIIF is well-positioned to connect global and domestic institutional capital with high-quality enterprises.'

Infrastructure Fund II will continue to invest in core infrastructure sectors such as energy, transport, and digital infrastructure, while also expanding into new areas including urban infrastructure and electric mobility. NIIF's first infrastructure fund previously raised ₹16,000 crore and invested in renewable energy, transmission, distribution, energy storage, roads, ports and logistics, airports, data centers, and smart metering.

The statement also emphasized that NIIF's infrastructure investment strategy combines local deal sourcing, industry expertise, active management, access to co-investments, and long-term asset management through unified institutional relationships. Vinod Giri, Infrastructure Managing Partner at NIIF, commented: 'With a strong portfolio, we see significant opportunities to deploy capital where NIIF can provide industry expertise, operational capability, and large-scale execution.'
