The number of people moving abroad for permanent residence from Uzbekistan is decreasing. Most of them are heading to Kazakhstan and Russia.
According to data from the National Statistical Committee, a total of 5,422 people moved from Uzbekistan to foreign countries for permanent residence in the first half of 2026. Of this number, 14.1% went to Russia.
Kazakhstan leads by a large margin, accounting for 83% of all migrants, which is equivalent to almost 4,5 thousand people. Approximately 765 people moved to Russia. Next are South Korea with a share of 0.8% and Kyrgyzstan with a share of 0.6%. The remaining countries accounted for 1.5%.
Overall, there is a trend towards a decrease in the number of those moving for permanent residence from Uzbekistan. In the first half of 2026, this indicator decreased by 129 people, or 2.3%, compared to the same period last year.
By region, the largest number of migrants was registered in Karakalpakstan—1,899 people. The next most populous regions are Tashkent region with 1,431 people and Navoi region with 1,203 people. These three regions accounted for almost 84% of all those who left the country for permanent residence. In the city of Tashkent, 492 such citizens reside.
