Tristan Lawrence defeated Paul Casey in the playoffs to claim the Omega European Masters title on Sunday. This success marks South Africa's seventh victory on the DP World Tour (DPWT) this season.
The 29-year-old athlete secured his third title in Krarns Montana and his sixth trophy in his DPWT career. As a result, he ranked sixth among South African winners on the tour. He trails Brendan Grace (10), Charles Swartzel, and Louis Oosthuizen (with 11 wins each), Retief Goosen (14), and Ernie Els (28). Gary Player is excluded from this official list as most of his triumphs occurred before the official founding of the European Tour in 1972.
Lawrence also became the sixth unique South African champion on the DPWT this year, continuing an impressive campaign for his country.
The season started strongly in December when Jayden Shaper won the Alfred Dunhill Championship and AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open back-to-back. Shortly after, Casey Jarvis repeated this feat, winning the Magical Kenya Open and the Investec South African Open at the end of February.
Jarvis was very close to a historic three-peat at the Joburg Open, finishing just one stroke behind winner Dan Bradbury. A win there would have placed him among players who have won three consecutive DPWT tournaments, alongside Sev Ballesteros and Sir Nick Faldo.
In May, 22-year-old Jurav Premvall first won a DPWT title at the Estrella Damm Catalunya Championship, achieving a historic victory. Premvall dominated the tournament, winning by a margin of 14 strokes—a margin surpassed only by Tiger Woods' iconic 15-stroke triumph at the 2000 US Open on the DPWT.
Summer brought interesting stories from tour veterans. In Belgium, 44-year-old Richard Stern achieved one of the greatest comebacks in sports, winning the Soudal Open after a 13-year hiatus. In July, 39-year-old Michael Hollik broke through at the BMW International Open, winning his first DPWT title in his debut full season and securing a place among golf's elite.
