The possibility of establishing a new international airline is being considered in the Fergana region. This was reported by the press service of the regional administration, specifying that this issue was discussed during a meeting between the region's hokim, Khayrullo Bozorov, and representatives of the Afghan airline Kam Air, which took place on September 4.
Omar Mohammad Suleiman headed the Kam Air delegation. Timur Khalilov, head of the commercial activities department of Uzbekistan Airports, also participated in the negotiations. The parties continued to discuss agreements reached during the Fergana region delegation's visit to Afghanistan on July 26–27, when talks were held regarding the expansion of trade, economic, and investment cooperation.
The central point of the meeting was the further development of cooperation in the aviation sector, specifically, exchanging views on the initiative to establish a new international airline in Fergana. Potential possibilities for implementing this project, necessary infrastructure requirements, and the organization of subsequent servicing of the future airline were reviewed.
Significant attention was paid to the steps required to move the project into the practical phase, which implies attracting relevant specialists and organizations, as well as ensuring operation in accordance with international standards. Following the meeting, the parties agreed on further actions, but details regarding start dates, investment volume, structure, and participants' shares have not yet been disclosed.
In recent months, the authorities of Fergana have regularly held meetings with representatives of Afghan businesses, including Kam Air, to discuss expanding economic ties with Afghanistan. Previously, the region's hokim had met with representatives of this airline twice in August.
Kam Air is the first private commercial airline in Afghanistan, founded in 2003. This carrier operates both domestic and international flights on more than 15 routes, including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, India, Qatar, Kuwait, Pakistan, and Uzbekistan. In November 2017, Kam Air began flights to Uzbekistan, opening the Kabul—Tashkent route, on which two flights are operated weekly in 2026—on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
