As September begins, signs of cooling are appearing in India, but the southwest monsoon has not yet weakened. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for rain, storms, and strong winds across several states, including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and others, starting from September 7th.
In some areas, wind speeds may reach up to 70 kilometers per hour. In the hilly states, the threat of landslides persists amid heavy rainfall. According to IMD data, monsoon phenomena continue in North, Central, and East India due to a low-pressure area over Uttar Pradesh and an active trough in the Indo-Gangetic plain. It is forecasted that many states will continue to experience rain with thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds in the coming days.
In Delhi, cloudy skies, moderate rain, and thunderstorms are expected on September 7th, with winds potentially reaching up to 50 kilometers per hour. The maximum temperature in the capital is forecast to be around 33 degrees Celsius, and the minimum around 25 degrees Celsius. Rain is also predicted in Haryana-Chandigarh, Delhi, and eastern Rajasthan. Weather conditions in parts of Himachal Pradesh and Punjab may also deteriorate.
In Uttar Pradesh, storms, rain, and lightning are expected in the western districts on September 7th. The eastern part of the state is forecast to see rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds on September 7th and 8th. In Lucknow, the maximum temperature on September 7th is expected to be 31 degrees Celsius, and the minimum 26 degrees Celsius. Flooding situations may arise in many districts due to heavy rains.
In Uttarakhand, rain, thunderstorms, and lightning are anticipated on September 7th. Furthermore, monsoon activity in several districts of the state may intensify between September 10th and 12th. Rain may fall in many places, including Dehradun, Haridwar, Rishikesh, Roorkee, Haldwani, Nainital, Rudpur, Kashipur, Almora, Pithoragarh, Rudprayag, Chamoli, Uttarkashi, and Tehri Gadwal. The risk of landslides and soil erosion remains in the hilly areas due to abundant precipitation.
Madhya Pradesh is also expected to see continued monsoon activity in the coming days. Heavy rains are forecast for western Madhya Pradesh on September 7th, and for the eastern part on September 7th–8th and September 11th–12th. In Vidarbha, heavy rains are expected from September 10th to 12th. In Chhattisgarh, rain, thunderstorms, and lightning are possible from September 8th to 12th. In Bhopal, the maximum temperature on September 7th is predicted to be 28 degrees Celsius, and the minimum 23 degrees Celsius.
Bihar is expected to have rain, storms, and lightning in various districts on September 7th. In Patna, the maximum temperature may reach 32 degrees Celsius, and the minimum 27 degrees Celsius. In Jharkhand, rain and thunderstorms may continue from September 8th to 11th. Rain is expected in the plains of West Bengal from September 7th to 10th. Strong rains are forecast for sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on September 7th–8th and September 11th–12th. Odisha is expected to receive rain from September 10th to 12th. Due to existing flooding issues in some parts of the state, the rain could lead to rising river levels.
In Maharashtra, rain is possible in several Konkan and Goa districts from September 7th to 12th. Rain is also predicted in the Gujarat region, central Maharashtra, Marathwada, and Surat-Kachha. There is a possibility of heavy rainfall in some areas of the Konkan coast. In Mumbai, the maximum temperature on September 7th is expected to be 30 degrees Celsius, and the minimum 26 degrees Celsius.
Monsoon phenomena will also continue in Northeast India. Rain is expected in Arunachal Pradesh from September 7th to 12th. In Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura, rain is possible in several locations during this period. In Assam and Meghalaya, rain may occur in some places from September 9th to 10th. The IMD has advised vigilance in these states due to thunderstorms and strong winds.
In the southern part of the Indian subcontinent, rains may be relatively light. Rain is possible in coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, inland Karnataka, Kerala, Mahē, inland Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal, as well as Telangana, from September 7th to 12th. Storms and lightning are expected in coastal Andhra Pradesh and Karaikal from September 7th to 10th. Heavy rains are possible in coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam from September 11th to 12th. Strong surface winds are expected in coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema from September 7th to 10th.
The IMD has also issued a warning for fishermen, advising them to avoid venturing out to sea in certain areas off the coasts of Somalia and Oman until September 11th in the Arabian Sea.
