Former US President Donald Trump conducted a series of aggressive posts on social media concerning Iran. In one hour, he shared seven posts criticizing Iran's economy, oil exports, and currency. One post featured his photograph overlaid on a map of Tehran.
These messages were published on the Truth Social account. They conveyed a message about increasing American pressure on Iran. Trump asserted that US military and economic pressure significantly impacts Iran, and also declared an economic crisis in Iran.
Trump's first post contained a map of Iran with his face superimposed, demonstrating his hardline stance toward the country. Previously, Trump had also commented on the possibility of renaming the strategic Strait of Hormuz to 'Trump Strait.' The Strait of Hormuz is a vital sea route between Iran and Oman.
Following this, Trump published a graphic regarding oil movement through Hormuz. It claimed that the volume of oil transportation had increased to 18 million barrels per day, whereas before the war, this figure was 20 million barrels per day.
In another post, Trump focused on Iran's oil exports, publishing a graphic titled 'IRAN'S OIL EXPORTS ARE CRASHING!'. The graphic showed a sharp decline in Iranian oil exports, forecasting around 2 million barrels per day in 2025, followed by nearly zero in 2026, after which some improvement was expected.
Given the crucial role of oil in the Iranian economy, pressure on oil exports is viewed as a significant factor. Iranian officials have acknowledged economic difficulties but have refused to yield to US pressure.
Trump also attacked the Iranian currency—the rial—by publishing two graphics. In one, he stated there was hyperinflation in Iran, showing that at the beginning of 2025, one dollar cost about 900 thousand rials, and later this rate exceeded 2.27 million rials. Another graphic demonstrated the fall in the rial's value, claiming that Iran's currency was 'Destroyed.'
Iranian Economy Minister Ali Madanijadeh commented on the economic crisis, stating that responsibility for improving the economy lies with the government and the people of Iran, and that the US has no right to make such decisions.
Subsequently, Trump published an extremely aggressive image concerning the island of Kharg, captioning it 'Bye bye, Kharg.' This photo depicted a fighter jet against a backdrop of explosion and fire at an oil facility. Kharg is a critically important center for Iran's oil exports, as most crude oil has historically been exported through this island. Trump had previously shared AI-generated images and videos related to Kharg and stated his intention to destroy this center.
Trump's series of posts concluded with another photograph of a map of Iran inscribed with: 'IRAN IS A FAILING NATION!' Through all these publications, the message of multilateral pressure on Iran was conveyed: declining oil exports, weakening currency, and threats to energy infrastructure. Hormuz was also presented as a major flashpoint of tension.
In response to the US statements, Iran replied: Economy Minister Ali Madanijadeh emphasized that economic pressure would not change Iran's decisions. Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf warned the US that the response to further attacks would be serious, as the situation had changed. Meanwhile, tensions spread to the maritime domain: US Central Command reported an attack on three Iranian tankers, and earlier, Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps had fired ballistic missiles at two US Navy ships.
