Volkswagen Tera 2027 will receive the T-Cross engine and an eight-speed automatic gearbox

Volkswagen used its sponsorship of the Rock in Rio event to present new features, including the confirmation of the sale of the VW ID.4 in Brazil and the launch of a new version of the Tera model, which now offers the option of a more powerful turbo engine.

This new configuration is the Volkswagen Tera 200 TSI, equipped with the 1.0 turbo engine that generates 128 hp and 20.4 kgfm. This engine is already present in the Nivus, T-Cross, and Virtus models, and is being incorporated into the compact SUV Tera along with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The 200 TSI engine will coexist with the 170 TSI engine, which the Tera already had. The latter, with 116 hp, will be exclusive to the Tera TSI version. The 200 TSI will be applied to the higher-cost Tera Comfort and Tera High versions. The entry-level version, Tera MPI, will retain the 84 hp naturally aspirated 1.0 engine.

The updated vehicle line is expected to start being available at dealerships in October, although VW has not yet disclosed the prices for the Volkswagen Tera 2027.

Currently, the three-cylinder 1.0 turbo engine, named 200 TSI by VW, equips the Nivus, and the T-Cross in the Sense 200 TSI, 200 TSI, and Comfortline versions, as well as the Virtus in the Comfortline and Highline configurations. The Polo, meanwhile, uses the 170 TSI engine.

Both turbo engines in the Tera are based on the same 1.0 three-cylinder engine from the EA211 family, manufactured in São Carlos (SP). The difference lies in the calibration of parameters, such as electronic management and turbo pressure. The designations of the acronyms refer to torque in Newton-meters—165 Nm for the 170 TSI and 200 Nm for the 200 TSI, equivalent to 16.8 kgfm and 20.4 kgfm.

The eight-speed automatic transmission is the Aisin AQ300 model, the same one used by the 2027 T-Cross and the Taos. According to Volkswagen, the optimized distribution of ratios allows the engine to operate in its ideal range, resulting in smoother accelerations and lower revolutions during constant speed driving, which enhances acoustic comfort and refinement.

The Nivus, which shares the same engine, will continue to use its six-speed transmission.

Details of the equipment for the 2027 line have not yet been released. In the current configuration, the Comfort version is the one that introduces the automatic transmission and includes 16-inch alloy wheels, keyless entry, start-stop system, 8-inch digital display, 10.1-inch VW Play central unit, six airbags, LED headlights, adaptive cruise control, and emergency automatic braking.

The High version adds 17-inch wheels, a 10.25-inch digital display, Climatronic digital air conditioning, synthetic material upholstery, six speakers, wireless phone charger, rear camera, and front parking sensors. This is the only version capable of receiving the ADAS package, which includes lane keeping assist, blind spot detection, parking assist, and multi-function camera.
