Kartik Aryan's film 'Captain India' begins shooting in London after a five-year hiatus

Kartik Aryan's film 'Captain India,' which has been in development for about five years, is finally heading to the big screen. During the project's production, it faced numerous difficulties, including a change of director, disputes, and prolonged filming breaks. Currently, filming has started in London, with Shimit Amin directing.

Shimit Amin announced the start of filming on September 1, 2026, and shared a handwritten note with the entire team on September 4. In this note, he thanked the team for staying committed to the project during difficult times. Amin emphasized that the responsibility for creating this good film lies with the entire team, and the energy with which everyone is working is 'magical.' He expressed trust in the team, calling it one of the best in the world, and is proud of every participant in the film.

Kartik Aryan shared Shimit Amin's message on social media, attaching a photo from the set and writing: 'Ready to take off with Maverick.'

The first announcement about the film 'Captain India' was made in 2021. Hansel Mehta was originally supposed to be the director, and Kartik Aryan was slated to play an Indian aviation pilot. The plot is inspired by a major humanitarian operation in India aimed at saving thousands of people in a critical situation.

However, the film's journey was not easy. Producer Subhash Kale, associated with the 'Yemen Operation,' alleged that the plot of 'Captain India' was similar to his own project. Kale's project was based on the 'Operation Rahat,' which took place in 2015 to evacuate Indians from Yemen. This dispute was later resolved. Subhash Kale stated that he spoke with Harmone Bavje, and there was a misunderstanding regarding the project timelines on both sides. Following this, even more significant changes occurred in the film: Shimit Amin replaced Hansel Mehta as the director.

Shimit Amin is considered one of the renowned directors in the Hindi cinema industry. He has directed films such as 'Chak De! India' and 'Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year.' He is now returning to feature film direction after a long break, and 'Captain India' is seen as one of his important comeback projects.

Kartik Aryan had previously expressed his enthusiasm for this film, calling it an inspiring and gripping story, and noted that portraying this historical chapter would be an honor for him. Hansel Mehta had previously said that the film tells the story of a person who overcomes personal pain to save the lives of thousands. Producer Roni Screwvala described it as a story of the resilience of the human spirit in the face of adversity. Besides Kartik Aryan, Parvati Tiruvothu and Manish Choudhary will also participate in the film.
