Representatives of major international institutional investors held a meeting with the Ministry of Economy and Finance to discuss prospects for operating in Uzbekistan's domestic financial market.
The meeting took place on September 4th and was conducted with Minister's advisor Jasur Karshibayev. Representatives from the Finnish pension fund, as well as insurance and pension companies Ilmarinen, Elo, and Veritas, SOKA-BAU, and Aktia Bank Oyj were present.
One of the central issues was the potential participation of foreign investors in the market for Uzbekistan's government treasury bonds. The international side expressed interest in entering this segment, after which participants discussed its potential and the further development of the domestic financial market.
Representatives of the Ministry of Economy and Finance also presented information on the current state of the Uzbek economy, ongoing structural transformations and economic reforms, as well as the country's development prospects.
International investors positively assessed the implemented reforms and measures aimed at creating and developing the domestic financial market. Special attention was paid to strengthening Uzbekistan's credit profile.
The parties reviewed opportunities for further increasing the country's sovereign credit rating and achieving investment status. Furthermore, approaches to managing public debt, expanding opportunities to attract financing in national currency, and further developing the domestic capital market were discussed.
The Ministry of Economy and Finance noted that interaction with international institutional investors covers both current opportunities in the financial market and issues concerning its further improvement.
