Iran confidently defeated India in three consecutive sets (25-20, 28-26, 25-18) in Group B of the AVC 2026 Men's Continental Volleyball Championship.
Iran began its campaign with a 3-0 victory over New Zealand and is scheduled to play against China on Wednesday.
The competition is taking place in Kitakyushu, Japan, from September 4 to 13. The teams were divided into three groups of four teams each.
Japan, the host country, automatically took first place in Group A as the top seed, while the previous finalist secured first place in Group B as the second seed.
The next four teams from the FIVB world rankings were distributed across the first and second lines using a serpentine system. The third and fourth lines consisted of the remaining teams according to the ranking and were determined during the ceremony.
The winning team will receive a direct spot in the 2028 Olympic Games, and the three teams that finish in the prize positions will secure qualification for the 2027 FIVB Volleyball World Championship.
