As part of the celebration of Heritage Month, the Hudsons restaurant, in collaboration with chef and creator Megan Kate Swan, has developed a special burger that gives the classic Hudsons burger a distinct South African flavor, inspired by traditional braai broodjie.
This collaboration merges familiar South African tastes into a burger described as rich, generous, and slightly unexpected. The burger includes free-range beef mince seasoned with boerewors, chutney from Mrs H. S. Ball, borenkaas, tomato relish, pickled cucumbers, and garlic mayonnaise based on burnt oil. It is served on a bun toasted in Kerrygold butter with garlic and herbs.
Heritage Month Combo Meal for 200 Rand
This Heritage Month burger is available at all Hudsons restaurants throughout September 2026. The full set costs 200 rand and includes the burger itself, Hudsons fries, and a Jack Black Lite drink. The burger was created as a tribute to South African culinary culture, utilizing the flavors, rituals, and memories associated with the braai.
Instead of simply recreating the braai broodjie, Swan and Hudsons have transformed its nostalgic flavor profile into a burger designed for sharing at the table.
Burger Sales Support Veterinary Clinic in Hyelitshe
Furthermore, this partnership aims to support the Mdzananda Animal Clinic, located in Hyelitshe, which provides veterinary care to animals and their owners in the local community. Sixty rand will be donated to this organization for every Heritage Month burger sold. Megan Kate Swan personally chose this organization due to her connection to both food and animal welfare.
Swan noted: 'It is an honour for me to participate in a campaign built for good. This burger is absolutely delicious, but knowing that every bite supports Mdzananda Animal Clinic in Hyelitshe makes it even tastier!' The Heritage Month burger will be available for a limited time in September.
