Videotex receives Google ODM certification and forecasts revenue of 800 crore rupees in three years

Videotex, a manufacturer of original design televisions and display products, has received Original Design Manufacturer (ODM) certification to produce and supply smart TVs based on Google TV. The company's director, Arjun Bajaj, stated that this will allow the business to significantly grow to 800 crore rupees over the next two to three years.

Videotex has established capacity to annually produce 2.2 million television units. Furthermore, the company plans to enter the large home appliance market, with the first product category expected to enter mass production by the end of the current year, although the specific category has not been disclosed.

Receiving ODM certification from Google TV is a 'very important event,' according to Bajaj. This status will enable local and regional brands to purchase smart TVs with Google TV support from the Indian manufacturing partner instead of relying on Chinese suppliers.

Bajaj told PTI that this will reduce brands' dependence on sourcing from China or working with Chinese ODM manufacturers while strengthening India as a base for television manufacturing and supply.

Based in Noida, Videotex has been operating in the Indian television manufacturing market for over four decades. The company is already in talks with several brands and expects to join a few of them by the end of the year.

This move will also help Videotex increase its ODM business revenue by more than 75 percent in the next two to three years, based on the current revenue of 450 crore rupees. Bajaj emphasized that the company is on track to achieve the 800 crore rupee target in the TV ODM segment within two to three years, continuing to develop a strong base as a Google TV licensee.

Currently, only a few companies hold ODM certification, such as Dixon Technologies, Super Plastronics Pvt Ltd (SPPL), and Jaina Group. As a new market entrant, Videotex intends to use this license to manufacture white-label Google TVs for other brands.

According to Bajaj, Videotex holds a leading position in the WebOS television market in India, having collaborated with the LG WebOS ecosystem since 2021, and also partnered with Samsung's Tizen OS last year. The Google TV certification, he noted, fills a gap in the company's portfolio.

The company operates two research centers: one in India and a global center in China. Plans to expand capacity are also under consideration and are likely to be finalized in the coming months.

Regarding consumer trends, Bajaj noted that buyers are increasingly opting for larger screens—televisions of 43, 55, and 65 inches. He linked this shift partly to the rising prices of memory chips, which increases overall electronics costs. He predicts that the next year will be very strong for the 4K and large-screen market.

In addition to the domestic market, Videotex is exploring export opportunities. Bajaj pointed out that government initiatives and trade discussions with neighboring and other countries could open up foreign markets after further maturation of India's local component ecosystem.
