The Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) increased the number of districts under yellow warning from 14 to 17 as of 21:00 today, with Viana do Castelo being the exception.
In the warning issued on Friday, IPMA indicated that the districts of Bragança, Viseu, Évora, Guarda, Faro, Vila Real, Setúbal, Santarém, Lisbon, Leiria, Beja, Castelo Branco, Coimbra, and Portalegre were under yellow warning until 19:00 on Saturday due to hot weather.
In the update made at the beginning of the day, IPMA added the districts of Porto, Aveiro, and Braga to the list.
In the districts of Bragança, Viseu, Porto, Guarda, Vila Real, Leiria, Castelo Branco, Aveiro, Coimbra, and Braga, IPMA warns of possible thunderstorms, heavy rainfall, and wind gusts of 70 to 90 km/h.
In the other districts, the warnings are related to high maximum temperature values and cover Évora, Faro, Setúbal, Santarém, Lisbon, Beja, and Portalegre.
The yellow warning is the least serious of the three levels and is issued whenever there is a risk to certain activities dependent on the meteorological situation.
