Volkswagen has started selling its first fully electric vehicle in Brazil. The Volkswagen ID.4 Pro 2027 will be available at dealerships starting in October for the price of R$ 299,990, featuring a unique configuration whose price is comparable to that of the 2027 Tiguan R-Line, a similar-sized combustion medium SUV.
Although the ID.4 was available since 2023, its previous circulation was limited to the Sign&Drive subscription program, restricted to 250 units. During this period, monthly fees ranged from R$ 9,990 to R$ 4,990, offering a final purchase option for R$ 190 thousand. According to Volkswagen itself, this initial phase served to collect data on the vehicle's performance and usage before its traditional sale.
The return of the ID.4 occurs in an electrified vehicle market that has undergone a very rapid transformation in the last three years. In August, the sector registered a historic feat, accounting for 24.3% of light vehicle registrations in the country.
However, mid-size SUVs constitute only a slice of this recent growth. This is the segment where VW plans to focus initially, also seeking to attract customers who currently consider models such as the BYD Song Plus Premium and the GWM Haval H6 PHEV, but who might opt for a 100% electric car.
The version arriving in stores presents significant improvements compared to the leased models, notably in terms of power. The engine remains unique and positioned at the rear, but its performance has been increased from 204 hp and 31.6 kgfm to 286 hp and 55.6 kgfm. Furthermore, the battery capacity increased from 77 kWh to 84 kWh gross, totaling 79 kWh net. The autonomy certified by Inmetro progressed from 370 km to 389 km, and the fast charging rate in direct current jumped from 135 kW to 185 kW. According to the manufacturer, using a 180 kW charger, the SUV can reach 10% to 80% charge in just 25 minutes. The time required to reach 100 km/h decreased to 6.7 seconds, and the maximum speed achievable is 180 km/h.
Other improvements include the multimedia center, which now features a 12.9-inch screen, compared to the 10 inches of the previous model, and offers integrated navigation, as well as wireless support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, four USB-C ports, and inductive charging. The 5.3-inch digital dashboard maintains its fixed position on the steering column, and the steering wheel has been reequipped with physical buttons.
The standard equipment list includes IQ.Light matrix LED lighting with adaptive high beam, ambient light with 30 color options, electric front seats with memory functions, heating, and three massage programs, three-zone air conditioning system, panoramic sunroof, 360° camera, keyless entry with trunk opening via presence sensor, and 19-inch wheels.
In terms of driving aids, the vehicle features Travel Assist and Emergency Assist, which takes control and shuts down the car if the driver loses consciousness, in addition to Park Assist Plus, which can memorize repetitive parking maneuvers, such as those performed in residential garages. The ID.4 has a length of 4.58 meters, a wheelbase of 2.77 meters, and a trunk capacity of 533 liters, equipped with rear-wheel drive and independent rear suspension.
The main competitors in this price range are not electric vehicles. In the first half of the year, the BYD Song Pro registered 17,776 sales, the BYD Song Plus accumulated 10,951, and the GWM Haval H6 PHEV19 totaled 6,918 units. All these models are plug-in hybrids, which gives them the advantage of not depending on public charging infrastructure.
In the most complete versions, the Song Plus Premium costs R$ 299,800, and the Haval H6 GT PHEV starts sales around R$ 319 thousand.
Among similar-sized 100% electric SUVs, the competition is less fierce and more accessible: Geely EX5 (with 1,343 registrations in the semester), GAC Aion V (969), and Chevrolet Captiva EV (928) offer powers between 201 hp and 218 hp and batteries of approximately 60 kWh.
Although the ID.4 has superiority in power and charging speed, it lags in autonomy, as its 389 km certified by Inmetro are lower than the 413 km of the EX5 in the Pro version, which starts at about R$ 195 thousand. However, VW stands out by offering a superior level of luxury.
Sales of the new ID.4 will begin nationwide starting in October.
