Russia has launched the Vostok Oil project, which involves delivering crude oil via a pipeline several hundred kilometers long. This pipeline will run from two Siberian fields—Payaz and Vankorsk—to the Arctic port Bukhta Sever in Krasnoyarsk Krai.
Putin authorized the pumping of crude oil into a tanker, which, according to him, will then travel, breaking through the ice, to the Asia-Pacific region or Europe.
Assessing that this port terminal is capable of transporting 30 million tons of oil annually, the head of state congratulated Igor Sechin, president of Rosneft, Russia's largest oil company, via video conference.
He stated that thanks to this, Bukhta Sever will become the world's largest northern port, emphasizing that the participants in the 'world-scale' project worked in severe cold conditions. Putin also recalled that Vostok Oil reserves are estimated at seven billion tons of oil, making it 'one of the largest oil fields on the planet.'
The head of state emphasized that this is a significant event for the economy of the entire country, linking the project to plans for the development of Northern Siberia, the Arctic, and the Russian Far East.
This week, speaking at the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok, the President of Russia ordered that the Northern Sea Route should be navigable for 12 months of the year by 2036.
