An incident occurred in the medical department of Sanjay Gandhi Hospital in Rive concerning the alleged declaration of an elderly patient admitted for treatment as deceased. Family members claim that a doctor announced the death and issued them a document transferring the body.
The family, accepting the body as dead, transported it to the sanitary transport on the hospital's first floor. During the process of placing the body into the vehicle, movement was observed in the elderly person's body, after which he regained consciousness and began groaning in pain. Subsequently, relatives returned him to the medical ward for continued treatment.
This incident took place late at night on September 4th. According to available information, Girja Gupta (66 years old) from Sidhi was admitted to the hospital for treatment due to complaints of vomiting and diarrhea. She was placed in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) on the third floor of the hospital under the supervision of Dr. Anaurag Chawdhary.
According to relatives, on the afternoon of September 5th, the medical team in the ICU conducted an examination and declared the patient dead. Allegations have arisen that cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) was not attempted at that time, nor was there sufficient checking of pupil reaction. Following this, the family was issued documents for the transfer of the body.
Relatives, weeping, transported the elderly person's body on a stretcher to the parking lot on the first floor of the hospital. As soon as the process of placing the body into the sanitary transport began, the elderly person's body suddenly started moving, and he began groaning in pain. This shocked the family. In a hurry, he was brought back to the medical ward.
According to the family, the elderly person was re-admitted to the hospital's medical ward, where his condition is assessed as critical, and he is on a ventilator. His treatment is currently continuing under the observation of doctors.
Regarding the incident, the head of the medical department, Dr. Pradip Baghel, admitted that a medical error was made at the initial stage. He stated that an investigation would be conducted, and appropriate action would be taken against the doctor if negligence is found.
However, the head of the department did not provide a clear answer to questions regarding the performance of necessary examinations, including the patient's pupil reaction. This entire incident has raised serious questions about the medical system and patient examination procedures at Sanjay Gandhi Hospital.
It is currently being investigated at what level the error occurred in declaring the patient dead and whether established medical protocols were followed before the death was announced.
