The administration of the Fergana region of Uzbekistan held a bilateral meeting on September 4, 2026, to discuss expanding investment cooperation with the Japanese trading and investment company Mitsui & Co., Ltd.
The Governor of the Fergana region, Khayrullo Bozorov, received a delegation led by Tomo Shingo, the chief representative of the Mitsui & Co. office in Uzbekistan. During the negotiations, the parties reviewed opportunities for implementing new projects using Japanese technologies and strengthening regional investment ties.
Participants emphasized the stable growth of strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and Japan, focusing on expanding interregional connections, increasing projects with Japanese participation, and supporting mutual delegation visits.
Furthermore, the meeting discussed the introduction of Japanese educational practices in the Fergana region. Regional authorities have begun experimentally applying Japanese teaching methods, and local higher education institutions are integrating updated approaches into specialist training.
Proposals for Joint Ventures
During the negotiations, proposals were put forward for the creation of potential joint ventures in areas such as oil extraction, water supply systems, fruit and vegetable processing, infrastructure development, tourism, and education. After the discussions concluded, both sides agreed to take steps to promote these initiatives and deepen organizational cooperation.
Tulkinjon Rakhimov, the chief representative of Mitsui & Co., Ltd. in Kazakhstan, and Mirzohid Ubaydullaev, the first deputy governor of the Fergana region, also participated in the talks. Mitsui & Co., Ltd., headquartered in Tokyo, operates in 62 countries and has had an official presence in Uzbekistan since 1993, managing investments in energy, infrastructure, transport, agriculture, chemical industry, digital technologies, and logistics.
