Striker Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya scored his sixth league goal for AmaZulu FC, leading his team to a 2-1 victory over provincial rivals Richards Bay FC during a Betway Premiership match held at Priness Magogo Stadium on Friday evening.
Ngwenya maintained his exceptional start to the season when AmaZulu secured the 2-1 win against Richards Bay in the KZN derby at Princess Magogo Stadium on Friday night. His goal in the 52nd minute extended his scoring streak to six consecutive appearances since the beginning of the campaign.
The AmaZulu forward had previously set a historical precedent by scoring in each of his team's initial five matches across all competitions, making him the first player in PSL history to accomplish this feat. His most recent goal against the Natal Rich Boyz has now elevated this record to six successive games.
This latest strike further bolstered his impressive offensive run, bringing his total goals in all competitions to eight, and establishing him as one of the top performers in AmaZulu's strong seasonal performance.

The path to AmaZulu's victory was challenging, as Richards Bay managed to fight back after initially falling behind. Moses Mthembu managed to equalize from the penalty spot in the 80th minute. However, AmaZulu quickly regained the advantage when Nkosikhona Radebe restored their lead just two minutes later.
This late goal proved to be the deciding factor, allowing AmaZulu to secure the derby points and an important three points.
The head coach of Usuthu, Arthur Zwane, continues to expect high performance from his striker despite his outstanding form. During the post-match press conference, he stated, “I don’t want to put him under pressure so we’ll take it game by game but I want him to score every game because he’s a striker. Ngwenya has the potential to score 20 goals a season, I just hope he stays fit this season, because if we keep creating chances for him, he’ll put them away.”
For Ngwenya personally, the match added another chapter to his history, as he surpassed his previous record of being the first player to score in each of his team’s opening five matches across all competitions.
