As part of a significant step aimed at strengthening measures to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030, the United Nations (UN) has declared November 27 as the International Day to End Child, Early and Forced Marriage.
This date holds particular significance for India, as it was on November 27, 2024, that the country's government launched the 'Bal Vivah Mukt Bharat' campaign. India supported this resolution, which was promoted by Sierra Leone.
It is emphasized that the time has come for governments worldwide to demonstrate decisive leadership to end child marriages by 2030 and ensure the education, protection, and development of every child to realize their full potential.
Gratitude was expressed to the First Lady of Sierra Leone for her leadership in supporting this initiative, as well as to the countries that sponsored the resolution. One participant attended the UN session as a civil society representative during the adoption of the resolution.
