During hot weather, an air cooler provides relief with its cool air; however, with the arrival of the rainy season or monsoon, this appliance can become a source of problems. During monsoons, the level of humidity in the air is initially very high. When water from the cooler is pumped through a water pump, it further increases the humidity in the room, turning the room from cool to sticky and stuffy.
If you do not have an air conditioner and suffer from dampness on rainy days, there is no need to worry. With several simple and clever tricks for coolers, you can enjoy dry and cool air even during the rainy season. These simple methods are presented below.
Firstly, the water pump should be kept off. Since there is already a lot of moisture in the air during the monsoon month, it is best to simply turn on the fan. Dry air will help dehumidify the room, immediately eliminating the feeling of stickiness.
Secondly, windows and doors must be left open. The main principle of cooler operation is based on ventilation. Therefore, a window located behind or in front of the room where the cooler is operating must be fully open so that moist air can escape outside and prevent stuffiness.
Thirdly, if strong heat is felt, instead of filling the tank with water, you can place ice blocks or ice cubes in the dry reservoir and turn on the pump. This will reduce moisture spread, and the air will become very cold.
Additionally, it is important to regularly clean the cooler's cooling panels. During the rainy season, mold and unpleasant odors can form on the grass or honey panels of the cooler, which intensifies the feeling of humidity. The panels should be washed periodically with a solution of Dettol or vinegar and then dried.
Another tip is to add a little alum to the cooler's water. During the monsoon month, dirt accumulated in the tank and the weight of the water contribute to increased humidity and odor. Adding a small piece of alum settles impurities at the bottom and makes the water cleaner and lighter. This significantly reduces the stickiness of the air coming from the cooler and eliminates the smell of dampness.
Finally, you can place some baking soda or camphor in the corners of the room. These substances help absorb excess moisture and damp odors present in the atmosphere.
