The Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Pushkar Singh Dhami, on Friday transferred the August payment for social security pension schemes under the Ministry of Social Welfare. The payment was made through the Minister's one-click payment mechanism.
A total of 991,914 beneficiaries received direct transfers to their bank accounts amounting to ₹147.05 crore. Additionally, subsidies were approved in August for 5,605 new recipients across various pension programs.
The Minister emphasized that ensuring social protection for vulnerable, needy, and underprivileged sections of society is a priority of the state government. He stated the government's commitment to ensuring that every eligible person receives benefits from social security schemes simply and timely. He instructed officials to diligently address practical difficulties arising during the implementation of pension programs.
The Chief Minister noted that the state government regularly transfers pensions to eligible recipients through various social security schemes. He highlighted the need for continuous work to simplify, increase transparency, and orient the pension system towards beneficiaries, guaranteeing coverage for all concerned individuals.
He also directed staff to identify eligible recipients who cannot obtain Aadhaar for any reason and organize cashless payments for them so that no eligible person loses pension benefits due to Aadhaar-related issues.
During the presentation, it was reported that in August 2026, ₹147 crore was allocated to 991,914 beneficiaries across various pension schemes, including old age, widows, disabled persons, farmers, single women, maintenance allowance, Telu Rauteli scheme, and dwarf pension.
Out of the total number of pension recipients, 214,711 people are covered under the National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP), while 777,203 beneficiaries are covered by state-level schemes. Of the total pensions disbursed in August, approximately ₹140.11 crore is the state's share, and ₹6.94 crore is the central share.
The presentation also indicated that 5,605 new pensions were approved in August across various social security schemes. These new payments include 3,945 old age pensions, 1,000 widow pensions, 416 disability pensions, 106 farmer pensions, 23 single women pensions, and 115 beneficiaries under the maintenance allowance scheme.
Furthermore, information on upcoming events was presented. It was announced that the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment of the Government of India proposed holding a two-day National Departmental Summit on September 18 and 19, 2026, at the International Centre Dr. Bambedkar, Yanpat, New Delhi. This summit will serve as a platform for dialogue between the Centre, states, and Union Territories on key priorities related to social justice and empowerment.
