Central Bank prohibits advertising and links on Pix receipts starting in 2027

The Central Bank has established a new guideline that prevents payment receipts made through Pix from containing advertising, commercial offers, hyperlinks, or any information not directly related to the transaction performed.

This determination, outlined in Normative Instruction BCB No. 774, was published on September 3, 2026, and will only come into effect starting in March 2027. The main objective of this change is to reduce the risk of these documents being used in fraud schemes or causing confusion.

Through this regulation, the Central Bank is closing loopholes that allowed Pix receipts to be used for purposes other than those related to the data of the financial operation executed.

To comply with this requirement, the Central Bank incorporated the measure into version 7.4 of the Minimum Requirements for User Experience document. The guidance specifies that the payment receipt must serve exclusively to document and prove the transaction, strictly prohibiting the insertion of propaganda, advertising, commercial offers, hyperlinks, or any content unrelated to the identification, execution, or registration of the operation.

The rules apply to both digital receipts—such as images, PDFs, or application screens from financial institutions—and printed receipts. However, it is presumed that the decision's greater focus lies on digital formats, as this is where links and promotions are usually displayed.

This new regulation covers all types of receipts, whether from transfers (made via Pix key) or payments at commercial establishments (made via QR Code).

According to the Central Bank, the receipt must operate only as a record of the transaction, and not as an advertising vehicle. This alternative approach could complicate the location of specific data on the document or, in more serious scenarios, facilitate the occurrence of scams or fraud.

The implementation of this new rule is scheduled to begin on March 1, 2027, giving financial institutions adequate time to make necessary adjustments to their systems. In addition to the obligations regarding Pix receipts, Normative Instruction BCB No. 774 contains other provisions that will also be valid starting in March 2027.
