Skeletal remains of medieval woman found in China who had her nose amputated as punishment

Researchers from China and the United States have allegedly discovered the skeleton of a medieval inhabitant of China whose nose was amputated as a form of punishment. The remains of an adult woman subjected to this procedure were found by archaeologists in 2019 in Henan province.

According to information presented in the publication in the Journal of Archaeological Science: Reports, radiocarbon dating allowed researchers to determine that the body belonged to a person whose life ended between the late 13th and early 15th centuries AD.
