The President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, visited the recently opened Center for Contemporary Art in Tashkent to examine the facilities created at this venue.
The official opening of this center is planned for September 6. This institution is the first state object for contemporary art in Uzbekistan. It is located in a historic building constructed in 1912, which was previously used as a tram depot and a diesel power plant. The restoration concept was developed by the French architectural bureau Studio KO.
The center will serve as a venue for various events, including exhibitions, lectures, discussions, film screenings, concerts, performances, and creative workshops. Additionally, it is equipped with a specialized library, a research archive, and areas for public programs.
The center's first international exhibition will be an exposition titled 'Hikmah' ('Wisdom'). This exhibition will feature 11 works by artists, including an installation from the collection of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York, which will be displayed in Uzbekistan for the first time.
Previously, information that the Center for Contemporary Art in Tashkent would open on September 6 after large-scale reconstruction had already circulated in the news.
