The President of the Iranian Chamber of Commerce for Trade, Industry, Mining, and Agriculture (ICCIMA) held a meeting with the new Secretary General of the International Road Transport Union (IRU) during a webinar to discuss ways to simplify money transfers between the two bodies.
According to IRNA, Samad Hassanzadeh, representing the Iranian Chamber of Commerce, conducted an online meeting on Tuesday to discuss methods for ensuring fund transfers between ICCIMA and IRU.
At the start of the online meeting, the President of the Iranian Chamber of Commerce congratulated the new IRU Secretary General on taking office, noting: 'We are very pleased that an academically and economically educated figure has taken on this responsibility.'
Hassanzadeh expressed hope for the beginning of a new era of effective cooperation between the Iranian Chamber of Commerce and the International Road Transport Union, emphasizing that 'the continuation of issuing TIR carnets can strengthen Iran's position in the regional transit network.'
Addressing the difficulties with money transfers caused by sanctions, the President of the Iranian Chamber of Commerce described the steps taken to find ways to facilitate the transfer of funds to the IRU.
Hassanzadeh also stated the readiness to create a limited barter mechanism under the supervision of the IRU, proposing: 'It is proposed that the IRU develop a limited barter mechanism through which Iran could settle part of the service costs using goods not subject to sanctions, or that these amounts be paid through a bank designated by the IRU.'
Expressing gratitude for the constant support from the IRU, he requested: 'The credit that this union provides to Iran should be increased.'
The President of the Iranian Chamber of Commerce added that 'we ask the IRU to increase the quota for TIR carnets and Iran's credit line so that Iranian operators are not forced to resort to non-TIR related methods.'
Commenting on the long-standing valuable cooperation between the IRU and Iran, the Chamber President called for establishing operational channels and expressed hope that this partnership would continue into a new era with an updated vision and effective support, leading to the strengthening of Iran's position in the TIR system.
Kivan Kashfi, a member of the Board of Directors of the Iranian Chamber of Commerce, also congratulated the Tunisian nation on the election of Habib Turki as Secretary General of the International Road Transport Union, expressing hope for finding solutions to maintain and strengthen cooperation.
Habib Turki stated during this online meeting that his priority is to continue interaction and solve problems, stressing: 'We stand firmly and resolutely by your side.'
He mentioned efforts to find channels to facilitate money transfers in light of international sanctions and addressed the President of the Iranian Chamber of Commerce, saying: 'I thank you for your proactive and responsible actions in seeking money transfer methods.'
