Minister of Health Eldor Adilov told journalists on August 30, 2026, during the visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Uzbekistan, that major Indian hospital chains, including Apollo Hospitals, have expressed a desire to open clinics in Uzbekistan.
The Minister noted that more than ten joint projects with India are currently being implemented, and during the visit, the Indian delegation planned to launch five new potential initiatives. Most of these projects are focused on the pharmaceutical sector, specifically on local production and localization of medicines in Uzbekistan.
The new projects are expected to be introduced in both Tashkent and regional provinces. During the visit, the parties held talks regarding specific initiatives in the regions of Andijan and Surkhandarya.
The development of healthcare infrastructure is another important area of bilateral cooperation. Adilov emphasized that leading Indian healthcare providers, including Apollo, are interested in establishing medical institutions in Uzbekistan.
The Minister identified oncology and cardiology as the main areas of medical cooperation with India. In the pharmaceutical sphere, the opening of the Ankavel enterprise was planned, which will be responsible for the production and localization of oncological drugs.
Adilov also pointed to proton therapy—an advanced method of treating oncological diseases—as a promising area for cooperation. He noted that this technology is already used in India and is included in Uzbekistan's long-term plans, although its implementation is not part of the current phase of the project.
As part of the state visit, both countries also signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in Ayurveda and other forms of traditional medicine.
