The CCA Tashkent Contemporary Art Center will open its doors in Tashkent on September 6. This opening will unite contemporary art forms, educational programs, scientific research, and public initiatives within a historic building that is over a hundred years old.
The building itself was constructed in 1912 based on the design of architect Wilhelm Heinzelmann. Initially, it served as a tram depot and was later converted into a diesel power plant.
As part of this project, it was possible to preserve the historical appearance and industrial character of the building while giving the space a new functional purpose. The implementation of this project is initiated by the head of state and aims to preserve historical heritage while creating modern cultural infrastructure.
The architectural concept was developed by the French firm Studio KO. It successfully combines the building's historical architecture with modern areas designated for art, education, and public events.
The Center will feature exhibition halls, educational and public spaces, a library, and research facilities. In addition to showcasing contemporary art, the venue will host lectures, film screenings, discussions, scientific projects, concerts, and performances.
The project creators view CCA Tashkent not merely as an exhibition space but as a platform for cultural interaction and dialogue. The historic structure, previously associated with energy production, is now ready to become a platform for new creative and cultural endeavors.
The Contemporary Art Center is expected to become one of the new cultural attractions in Tashkent, contributing to the development of contemporary art, as well as cultural and educational projects in Central Asia.
