Jafari and Aliyakbari basketball players may miss the 2026 Asian Games due to injuries

Iranian basketball players Mehdi Jafari and Hassan Aliyakbari sustained injuries while preparing the national team for the 2026 Asian Games, which will be held in Nagoya, Japan.

Jafari's injury occurred during one of Iran's training sessions ahead of the Asian Games. To determine the extent of the damage and assess his participation possibility in the upcoming competition, the player underwent an MRI scan.

Meanwhile, Aliyakbari also cannot play after sustaining a shoulder injury during practice. His condition is currently being assessed by the medical staff of the Iranian national team, and further examinations and treatment are ongoing.

The Iranian Basketball Federation is expected to announce the results of the medical evaluations after the necessary tests are completed. The final decision regarding the severity of both injuries and the potential availability of the players for the Asian Games will be made after consultations with the national team's medical and coaching staff.

These injuries happened at a crucial stage of Iran's preparation for the 2026 Asian Games in Nagoya, as the national team continues its training camp before the continental tournament. Any prolonged absence of Jafari or Aliyakbari could affect Iran's plans and squad depth ahead of the tournament.

Further information on the condition of both athletes will be provided after their medical examinations are concluded.
