Many travelers encounter issues related to restrooms on highways. Although the government has built numerous public toilets on roads and expressways, complaints often arise regarding a lack of proper cleaning, which hinders people from using these facilities.
To address this issue, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has developed a special plan. A scheme has been launched where people will receive rewards for providing information about dirty toilets. This initiative is part of the 'Clean Toilet - Photo' contest, launched in September 2025, and the scheme's validity has been extended until June 30, 2027.
Some users have already utilized this program, earning FASTag account top-ups by reporting uncleanliness in toilets to NHAI. By 2026, 429 passengers received a FASTag account top-up of 1000 rupees after reporting dirty toilets. This scheme is available to all passengers using national highways.
To participate, users must upload a clear photograph through the RajmargYatra mobile application, including geotags and a timestamp. Additionally, they must provide basic information, including their name, location, vehicle registration number, and mobile phone number along with the photo.
After analyzing the photograph and data, participants whose vehicle registration numbers meet the specified criteria will immediately receive a reward of 1000 rupees. This reward will be credited as a FASTag account top-up to the account linked to the vehicle number. It is important to note that within the entire duration of the program, one vehicle can receive the reward only once, and it is non-transferable or redeemable in cash.
If multiple complaints are received for the same facility point, priority goes to the first person who submitted the complaint. This program applies exclusively to toilets under the jurisdiction of NHAI, as announced on NHAI's social media.
