India becomes global leader in workforce transformation through artificial intelligence development

A significant transformation of the workforce is being observed in India, as noted in the Microsoft 2026 Work Trend Index research on the state of AI in the workplace. According to this report, office specialists in India are beginning to perform tasks that go beyond basic AI functions, moving towards managing complex automated workflows.

The new study, presented by Microsoft in Bengaluru on Thursday, shows that this workforce restructuring is changing employees' daily activities: they are shifting from performing routine tasks to high-level supervision.

In parallel, in the field of technology acquisitions, Nvidia agreed to acquire Hugging Face for $12.93 billion, making a major bet on the open AI ecosystem. Hugging Face, which is used by over 18 million developers and more than 200,000 companies, hosts over 3 million AI models. Nvidia stated that it will keep the platform open and continue to support other cloud services, frameworks, and chip manufacturers.

In the local business sector, the global software giant Adobe acquired an Indian AI startup founded just one year ago. This startup, Rilo, was created by IIT Bombay graduates Dhruv Jaglan and Georgie Bobby. Rilo allows users to automate complex workflows using simple English text prompts. This is Adobe's second acquisition of an Indian AI company after acquiring the generative video platform Rephrase.ai in 2023.

In the finance sector, the beauty and health platform VLCC raised 110 crore rupees from the alternative credit firm BlackSoil Capital. The Carlyle-backed company operates in 130 cities across India and 11 countries, and plans to use the capital raised to expand its store network and launch new products.

Furthermore, Uber is cutting approximately 3,400 jobs, representing about 10% of its staff, as part of a major corporate restructuring, while continuing to push its $10 billion robotaxi initiative amid growing competition.

In the fintech sector, Business Nextgen Finance (BNF), founded by Pankaj Poddar, raised 215 crore rupees in equity from institutional investors, including Beams Fintech Fund I, Baring Private Equity India Fund 6, and Saison Capital. This non-banking financial company (NBFC) provides secured lending to small businesses outside the top 100 largest settlements in India, aiming to scale its presence to 1,000 locations by focusing on smaller towns where traditional underwriting systems often fail to accurately assess business viability.
